The MagTek Dynaflex II PED (Pin Entry Device) is used with box office and kiosk installations utilizing the Magensa payment gateway. It offers Tap-to-Pay, chip, and swipe transactions and supports mobile wallet via Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Payment Gateway

To use the Dynaflex II Go, your site will need to be integrated with the Magensa payment gateway. Magensa is compatible with Fiserv, TSYS and World Pay processors. If you're not familiar those processors we can put you in touch with a representative. For more details regarding Magensa, please contact your Saffire Website or Ticketing Account Manager.

Unboxing and Plugging In

  1. Unbox the Dynaflex II PED and ensure that all components are included:
    1. Dynaflex PED device
    2. USB-A - USB-C cable
  2. Plug the device into your laptop or Mini PC using the USB cable provided.
  3. The device screen will turn on and display "Welcome" and then turn back off as it goes into sleep mode. This is expected behavior.

Utility Installation (PED and GO)

The 'MagTek MagneFlex Powder' utility program must be installed on each computer which will be connected to a Dynaflex II PED. Without this installation, the Saffire interface will not detect the hardware which is installed.

  1. Open a chrome browser and go to https://www.saffire.com/magtek-powder
  2. Download the utility by clicking the Download icon at the top left of the screen

  3. Open a Windows File Manager window, and navigate to your Downloads folder. You should see a zipped file called MagTek Powder Middleware.
  4. Right click the file (tap and hold on a touch screen) and select Extract All.
  5. If desired, you can put the extracted MagTek Powder Middleware folder on a thumb drive to easily install across multiple machines. This will save you the step of downloading and extracting the utility multiple times.
  6. Open the MagTek Powder Middleware folder and double click the MagTek Powder Middleware file to install the utility.
  7. If you see a blue window that indicates "Windows protected your PC" you can click More Info and select Run Anyway.
  8. Follow the prompts to install the software and start the service. This service will automatically launch each time the computer is turned on.
  9. Physically connect the MagTek Dynaflex II PED device to the computer
  10. Once these steps are completed, launch box office or kiosk in a Chrome browser. The Dynaflex PED or Dynaflex Go should now be available in the card reader dropdown.

If you are using a Dynaflex II GO card reader (palm-sized device with no pin-pad), stop here. The following instructions do not need to be completed. For Dynaflex II PED (PIN Entry Device) readers, continue with the following.

Disable Signature Requirement (PED ONLY)

To disable the signature requirement for Box Office or Kiosk usage, it is necessary to install/configure the following utility. For Magtek II Go card readers, do not continue.

  1. Open a Chrome brower and go to https://www.saffire.com/magtek-utility.
  2. Download the Windows utility by clicking the Download icon at the top left of the screen.

  3. Open a Windows File Manager window, and navigate to your Downloads folder. You should see a zipped file called MagTek Utility.
  4. Right click the file (tap and hold on a touch screen) and select Extract All.
  5. A new window will open on top of the Downloads folder. It will contain a file called MagTek Utility. Double click this file to open it.
  6. Open the “DynaFlex Utility” folder. If you are navigating from your Downloads folder, the path will be Magtek Utility (make sure this is the unzipped file) > Magtek Utility > Dynaflex Utility.
  7. Double click the file called “DynaFlexUtility” (there are two files with this name, the correct one will show as an application in the third column and have an icon that looks like the device).

  8. If you see a different icon, that looks like a computer screen, it indicates that you have not extracted the zipped file. You can double click it and select Extract All.

  9. You should now see the Magtek Utility program, which looks like this:

  10. If you do not have this program open, go back to the DynaFlex Utility icon that looks like the device, and double-click it again.
  11. Plug the Magtek PED card reader into your computer.
  12. In the DynaFlex Utility, select the plugged in reader from the dropdown next to the “Device” label and click the connect button (plug icon with green +)

  13. Navigate to Settings > Transaction.
  14. Change the “Signature Capture Control” setting to “Host-Driven”.
  15. click “Set”.

At this point the device will effectively disable the signature requirement.

If desired, you can put the extracted MagTek Utility folder on a thumb drive to easily install across multiple machines. This will save you the step of downloading and extracting the utility multiple times.

TESTING URLs: Can be used prior to selecting Magensa as the active payment gateway. This setup is managed by Saffire.

    1. Boxoffice: https://{domain}/boxoffice/order?opp=magensa
    2. Kiosk: https://{domain}/kiosk/order?opp=magensa
  • After logging in and selecting your location you will need to select the device from the drop down menu.
  • If there is no serial number at the end of the Dynaflex listing in the drop down, there is a problem and you need to restart the computer

Troubleshooting

Can't connect to the reader

  • try unplugging the device, then plugging back in.
  • If that doesn’t work, try restarting the Magtek Powder Middleware

Tampered Messages

Condensation can cause the device to show it has been “tampered” with. This will sometimes go away after unplugging and plugging it back in - or trying the devices after letting it sit for some time.

Overnight, devices should be covered or brought inside. If devices are being brought inside but still having condensation buildup, a shower cap can be placed around them to keep moisture out overnight. Including a silica packet inside the cap can prevent moisture buildup even further.

Devices staying in a “tampered” state need to be returned to Saffire for resetting. To do this we need to reach out to Magtek (support@magtek.com) and get an RMA.

  • Typically all LEDs will flash - yet sometimes the screen will show a 'tampered' error.

Device Not Showing in Dropdown

If the device is not showing in the dropdown option for either the kiosk or the box office, please check that the Google Chrome settings are allowing the device to connect with your local network. Here are the steps on how to confirm these settings:

Please Read: If the PED is being used on a personal device, please make sure Windows is logged into an account that has administrative access to implement the setting changes to the device permanently.

Note: If you are in kiosk mode, you will need to exit kiosk mode and open a new Chrome browser to find the settings options to verify.

    • Step 1: Select the 'power dots' on the top right corner of the browser and select "Settings"

    • Step 2: Select "Privacy and Security" and "Site Settings"

    • Step 3: Select "Additional Permissions" under the "Permissions" section.

    • Step 4: Scroll down to the bottom of that section and select "Local Network Access"

    • Step 5: Change to "Ask" or "Sites can ask to connect to any device on your local network"

Once the steps are completed, refresh the box office browser or close Chrome and re-open the kiosk browser. The browser should then show the following pop-up to allow you to connect the device when plugged in.

If the device is still not showing in the drop-down, please check if powder is installed in the device, or it may need to be installed/reinstalled. Here is the link to the article: Dynaflex Powder Installation
