Crop images to a Square

The Edit Image tool includes functionality to crop an image to a square. This is often used to fit non-square images into a predefined 1:1 image space used for Events and Products, as well as the Feature Lineup module, and sometimes the Text/Gallery module or Image module.

Image editing requires specific permissions per user. These are assigned from Tools > Users


Spark location: Tools > Asset Library — or from any user-uploaded image location throughout Spark


Steps

  1. From the Asset Library, click the PowerDots and select Edit:


    From an image location, click on the existing image and select Edit:



  2. The Edit Image window will open and a selection box will surround the perimeter of the image:



  3. Click the 'full screen' icon at top left:



  4. Now click the Crop Boundary above the image and select None:



  5. Then click the Crop Shape and select Square:



  6. Drag a corner of the selection box beyond the edge of your image:




  7. Then drag the DIAGONALLY OPPOSITE corner beyond the other side of your image:



  8. Now click the 'full screen' icon again - the selector box will show that the full image fits within a square and it's ready to be saved for use.

Alternative method:

  • skip the full screen option
  • follow steps 4 & 5
  • then adjust the image by using the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom in/out.
